Comments
This class is well-tuned (instructor rating: 5.00). The programming labs and project were very interesting to most students and allow for building valuable development skills.
Strengths of the Course
- "Useful skills and subject matter, helps to prepare people for jobs in companies where various databases are the norm, and even the office assistants know enough SQL to be able to give psuedo-queries to the developers and information services members."
- "Having practice questions through a lecture is helpful and helps break up the learning time. It allows students to practice what is being taught and it is appreciated that Ramon walks around and offers help to those who may have questions. Also, the term project provides a great experience and knowledge opportunity."
Weakness of the Course
- "Having multiple choice questions that are actually 5 true or false questions. These are unfair and should be split into 5 questions instead to not punish students for not knowing some obscure fact that was discussed briefly in class when they know the other 4."
Most Enjoyable Part of the Course
- "Ramon Lawrence has an incredibly good grasp of databases, how they are used, and most importantly, how to teach them. The class was for the most part enjoyable through the entire term."
- "Being in class was always enjoyable, Dr. Ramon was a great prof. to listen to. Also, what may have been otherwise difficult concepts to learn were made understandable and learnable, instead of just memorized briefly and forgotten."
- "The course content is very applicable to everyday computer science applications, which made the course an invaluable learning experience. The instructor also presented the subject matter in a way which highlighted these practical uses."
